About Us

Hello I’m Melissa Ruf - the owner and operator of Rufdogs Training & Canine Services. We are a licensed and insured Boarding Facility located in Whitestone/ Parry Sound District. Along with our boarding services we provide on site Dog Training for family pet dogs to the surrounding communities. Our goal is to provide excellent care for your canine family members by providing a safe, clean and secure boarding facility along with experienced and knowledgeable training and behaviour instruction. Dogs have been a big part of my family life and I love including them on all of life’s adventures. From canoeing, skiing or hiking to helping me care for our lovely property, my dogs are my family, my co workers, and most importantly my companions.

My journey to working with dogs professionally began with my own dogs and my desire to better communicate with them. Learning how to build a relationship with my dogs based on trust and respect while using rewards based training was the key to working through life’s challenges together. What started as a puppy class with my first dog Milo turned into a passion for teaching families how to approach dog training using effective and kind methods. I am committed to continuing to work hard to keep my skills and knowledge base current while always keeping the relationship between humans and their dogs my top priority.

The boarding side came with our lovely 49 acre property which we purchased in 2017 which allowed me to use my years of experience working in the animal care field to be able to provide a safe, caring and fun place for dogs to stay while their families are away. I am grateful to the many dogs and dog families that have helped me learn and grow while I work to build a business that I am proud of while doing the job I love.
