Hey I’m Melissa Ruf the owner and operator of Rufdogs Training & Canine Service. We are a licensed and insured Boarding Facility located in the Municipality of Whitestone in Dunchurch Ontario. We also provide Dog Training for family pet dogs in the District of Parry Sound.
Dogs have been a big part of my family and life and I love including them on all of life’s adventures. From canoeing, skiing and hiking to lounging by a warm fire at the end of the day. My dogs are my co workers, my co pilots and most importantly my companions.
My journey to working with dogs professionally began with my own dogs and my desire to better communicate with them. Learning how to build a relationship with my dogs based on rewards based training was the key to working through life’s challenges together. What started as a puppy class with my first dog Milo turned into a passion for sharing a science based approach to dog training. I work hard to keep my skills and knowledge base current while always keeping the relationship between humans and their dogs my top priority.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Guelph and completed CPDT-KA Certification from the Council of Professional Dog Trainers in 2016. For more information about my educationally background please contact me directly.
The boarding side came with our lovely property which we purchased in 2017 which allowed me to combine my home with my years of working in the animal care field. I’ve worked in Veterinary Clinics and Horse Farms as well as Animal Shelters and the Humane Society – each experience helped to give me the skills to provide a safe and fun boarding stay for your dogs while you are away. Our large 2 acre fenced yard allows dogs to romp and explore and our climate controlled indoor space gives your dog a place to rest and relax.
