Melissa Ruf CPDT-KA
As a certified professional dog trainer, I strive to provide a compassionate and humane science based approach to animal learning. Following the Humane Hierarchy my aim is to help dog guardians clearly define their training goals and to implement a plan to achieve those goals while supporting both dog and human as they learn together. RufDogs Training plans focus on setting dogs up to be successful using rewards based approach to learning primarily through positive reinforcement.
I have been fortunate to have loved and lived with canine companions who have taught me how to love unconditionally – even when its hard and most importantly to appreciate the simple things in life. The relationships we have with our dogs take many forms from co worker to co pilot and mostly importantly companion and I believe we are all better people for having dogs along for the ride. My deepest gratitude to my own canine crew over the years - Milo, Archie, Bruin, Gretta, Calvin & Cody for helping me learn how to help others.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Guelph and completed CPDT-KA Certification from the Council of Professional Dog Trainers. I have used my training skills in the following positions over the last few years.
- Canine Training Coordinator, Oakville Milton Humane Society
- Dog Training Instructor, Oakville Milton Humane Society
- Dog Training Instructor, Canine Academy
In my spare time I love spending time in the outdoors. In the warmer months that means paddling in a canoe and in the winter skijoring with my canine companions.
Looking forward to connecting and working with your dog.
